He has coached Middle School (Ness, Golden Gate), High School (Daniel Mac, Gordon Bell, Silver Heights, Sturgeon Heights), Community Club (Roblin Park, Tuxedo) and through Crossover Basketball Club in leagues like Peg City and the PBA.
Coach Ricardo is a certified Personal Trainer and Yoga Instructor with the Manitoba Fitness Council and has trained group classes and individual classes for over 10 years with the City of Winnipeg.
Ricardo also coached at the Legion Athletic Camp for 10 years where he led a team of up to 8 coaches and led the training and development of over 1000 athletes from across North America.
During his time at Legion Athletic Camp, Ricardo ascended the ranks and took over as Camp Director for 3 years where he led the Camp’s coaching crews, admin and first aid staff. In his time as Director, Ricardo led the Track & Field, Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer, Gymnastics, and Multi-Sport camps where he helped guide the experiences of over 1500 athletes every summer.
He founded Crossover Basketball Club in 2015 as a way to give back for all the amazing experiences and great people who have come into his life, and as a vehicle to help other kids feel the positive impact that basketball can have on their lives.
As Club Coach, Ricardo has placed 2nd in Club Provincials with his 03-04 Girls team (Spring 2019), won a Peg City Spring Season championship with his 03-04 Boys (Spring 2019), a divisional AND city championship with his 08 Boys (Spring 2019), captured a 3rd place finish with a revamped 03-04 Boys team in Peg City Showcase (Fall 2019), and a Middle School Championship with his Ness Knights Tier 1 Boys team (Spring 2022).
Coach Ricardo received a Service Award from Basketball Manitoba in Spring 2023 for contributions to the game as a coach and he plans to continue coaching for as long as he breathes.
Coach Jayson started playing basketball at the young age of 4 years old. His coaching/training started with his Dad, Juanito (Pepe), as well as numerous uncles to help him along the way.
Coach Jayson’s top highlight as a player was being part of the Sisler High School varsity team his graduating year. His ‘94-‘95 squad worked together to defeat powerhouse programs including Tec Voc and Kelvin to claim the City Championship! As a follow up, they kept that ball rolling to make it all the way to the Provincial Final Four. The Spartans ended up coming short in the semis, but the lessons learned from this team helped guide him to where he is today.
On top of playing, he got to watch his dad coach many different youth and men’s league teams throughout his life. It was this experience that helped open his eyes to being involved in the game off the court.
Coach Jayson started his coaching career at Sisler the very next season with the grade 9 team. He stayed on as coach for 4 seasons. He then served as a Certified MABO referee for 6 years - officiating games in Middle School, High School, Sr. Men’s, WAAY, and PBA.
He then returned to the bench to coach Community Club at Tyndall Park and Garden City, as well as for teams in PBA and FBA-NA.
Along with coaching both the 2006 and 2007 boys teams here at Crossover, his most recent school position is at Bruce Middle School, where he’s been the Tier 1 Boys head coach for the last 4 years.
Coach Jay has experienced the most successful 12 months in Club history, capturing a Tier 2 Provincial Championship (Spring 2022), Moosejaw Tournament Championship (Spring 2022), 2nd place in the 06 Division of Peg City Showcase (Fall 2022), the championship in the 06 division of the PBA (Winter 2022) and a divisional title with his Bruce Bears Middle School Tier 1 Boys this past season (Spring 2023).
Jeff started his basketball journey at 7 years old when his uncle took him to a local ball court and showed him how to shoot a basketball. He instantly fell in love with the game and never looked back.
He played for St. John’s High School. His first coaching opportunity came by way of his friend Coach Jayson as an assistant at Sisler High School, where he saw a path to stay involved in the game post-graduation. He coached for 3 years at Tyndall Park Community Club for the WMBA, capturing a divisional title and making city finals - both in 2019. Coach Jeff decided to continue growing his coaching experience by joining Crossover Basketball in 2022 and taking the reins of the 09 and the 10-11 rosters.
Coach Jeff cares deeply and forms bonds with all his players. His main goals are to help every baller who he trains to be the best that they can be, and to be the catalyst for others to love the game as deeply as he loves it.
Coach Jeff is committed to elevating his skills behind the bench and is currently pursuing his coaching certification with Canada Basketball.
Coach Wilf Slobik is the architect of XVR Basketball's Team systems.
A veteran of the game, Coach Wilf has been involved in basketball AS A COACH for over 54 years ... and counting. If you stop by Nelson McIntyre Collegiate, you'll find his life's work gathered into about 10-15 League Championship and Provincial banners hanging from the rafters - the majority of them collected with the Varsity Girls, Grade 9 Boys AND JV Boys (League).
He has also won championships with UofW Collegiate, Community Club (Norwood, Roblin Park, Tuxedo) and in Club Basketball (Crossover, Manitoba Magic).
Coach Wilf credits much of his success as a coach to the mentorship he received from other legendary coaches like Dave McNabb (Vincent Massey), Brian Kornberger (Glenlawn), Dale Bradshaw (Dakota), and Vic Pruden (UofW Wesmen Women). Since his retirement, he has spent his time "paying it forward" by mentoring the next generation of coaches including all of our Crossover Basketball Coaches as well as the coaches at Nelson McIntyre and Glenlawn.
Coach Wilf has forgotten more about basketball than many coaches will ever know. His wisdom and experience are the reason that our Basketball Club has experienced steady growth and success over the years, and our players are fortunate to have him on our side.
